Oh this is going to be good and you know why? Simply put, you're about to learn a lot about turmeric and aloe vera and all of its benefits for your skin. Jumping right into it lets talk about turmeric, as i stated in my previous blog (kiwi & tamarind) turmeric contains curcumin.

And what exactly is curcumin you ask? Well, curcumin is a bioactive componet of turmeric that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Together we will reveal what this super spice has to offer for the skin. Modern scientific studies are just embarking on all of the positive impacts that turmeric does for the skin. So far, there has been many conclusive benefits on how turmeric directly bears upon the skin. Turmeric has also been known to treat a variety of skin issues such as psoriasis and acne.

Curcumin The Healing Component

Turmeric is a vivid, fragrant, and bitter spice. It's known to be used medicinally in the Chinese and Indian cultures. However, people from all over the globe have attributed turmeric with seemingly miraculous healing properties for nearly 4 centuries.

This bright yellow powder coming from the root of the turmeric plant is also known as the Golden Goddess and Indian Saffron. The curcumin component of turmeric improves collagen deposition and fibroblast ( a cell in connective tissue which produces collagen and other fibers.) Plus curcumin aids in vascular (vessel or vessels especially those that carry blood.) density in wounds which enhances wound healing. Think about that the next time you have a wound that you want to rapidly heal.

Curcumin is what gives turmeric its color and which supplies therapeutic benefits to the skin.

1. Protects skin against chemicals

2. Protects skin against environmental pollutants (smoke/smog)

3. Protects skin against free radicals

4.Promotes the growth of skin cell rejuvenation while enhancing healing the wound

5. Reduces inflammation

6. Reduces the dark circles under the eyes (because remember, curcumin aids in vascular density)

7. Creates a natural glow (super vibrant and radiant!)

8. Heals insect bites and often used as a mosquito repellent

9. Protects the skin from UV rays (one of the culprits for signs of pre-mature aging)

Skin cancer

10. Melanoma can likely benefit from a curcumin treatment. Curcumin is thought to clean-up dysfunctional cellular components. It may also curb the growth of melanoma cells and tumor progression.

Psoriasis

11. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin and joint disease that has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

Curcumin is thought to cramp the immune pathways responsible for psoriasis.

Scleroderma

12. Scleroderma causes the immune system to attack otherwise healthy connective tissue, resulting in scarring. This scarring usually occurs under the skin and around internal organs and blood vessels.

Vitiligo

13. Vitiligo is a condition that causes skin depigmentation, resulting in white patches of skin. In some cases, curcumin may prevent oxidative stress in the epidermal skin cells that are responsible for producing melanin.

Acne

14. Acne is a common skin condition characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, and pustules. A skin cream containing curcumin can potentially be used to regulate skin sebum production, which may help people who have acne.

What Is Aloe Vera

Aloe vera often described as a "wonder plant", is a succulent plant species of the genus Aloe. An evergreen perennial, it originated in the Arabian Peninsula and naturally grows in North Africa however, the plant grows wild in tropical, semi-tropical, and in arid climates around the world. It has been cultivated for its agricultural, cosmetic, and medicinal uses for thousands of years. The aloe vera plant is extremely rich in antioxidants and antibacterial agents.

Aloe vera contains anti-oxidants, enzymes, which includes vitamins A, and C, and it is supremely anti-inflammatory.

15. Aloe vera helps to treat burns and sunburns

16. Helps to treat acne

17.Helps to treat dry skin by moisturizing the skin

Using Aloe Vera On Face

Aloe vera is one of the most used herbal solutions for topical skin issues. This is because the gel like components of the plant are known to heal the skin from a plethora of minor conditions.

18. The aloe vera gel is an analgesic substance which means that the gel within the plant numbs the pain, cools and soothes

19. Kills bacteria preventing infection

Aloe Vera And Its Hormones

The two aloe vera plant hormones are auxins and gibberellins they help in wound healing and have anti-inflammatory action properties. It also provides 20 of the 22 human required amino acids and 7 of the 8 essential amino acids.

20. Aloe vera also contains salicylic acid that possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

The salicylic acid component of the aloe vera plant causes to brighten, in some cases lighten the skin resulting in reducing dark pigments within the skin.

21, Gibberellins act as a growth hormone stimulating the growth of new cells causing faster healing.

22. Auxins are an anti-inflammatory hormone that reduces skin inflammation.

I am going to try this for a month or so to see if it will clear up some hyper-pigmentation on my cheeks.
